Evaluating trends in and outcomes associated with emergency department-initiated buprenorphine

Emergency departments serve as a vital, low-barrier access point for patients with opioid use disorder, but ensuring these patients receive evidence-based treatment and successfully transition into ongoing outpatient care remains a significant challenge. This project leverages national multi-payor claims data to evaluate the real-world effectiveness of ED-initiated buprenorphine, examining broad treatment trends, initial linkage to outpatient treatment, and health care utilization outcomes determine the long-term impact of acute interventions on continuous care and sustained recovery.
